Goals:

The Five Main Goals of Urban Youth:

• Raise Awareness of participants about the level of men’s verbal, emotional, physical and sexual abuse of women.

• Challenge Thinking by countering mainstream messages about gender, sex and violence.

• Open Dialogue by creating a safe environment for men and women to share their opinions and experiences.

• Inspire Leadership by empowering participants with concrete options to effect change in their respective communities.

• Encourage Sportsmanship by offering affordable and quality sports for all youth of all skills levels.

Our Vision

Is Is to make a positive impact in the lives of youth.

To make a positive difference in the life of at least one youth.

To make a positive change in the Urban Youth community.

To Empower one youth to make a positive impact.

To Encourage one youth to Rise Up and Speak Out to make a positive change in his/her Urban Community.

The key objectives for the programs include:

(1) Building connections with local community organizations, especially those working with communities of color and low income families.

(2) Creating a forum for all youth to give voice to their personal viewpoints and concerns through monthly open mic night and other events like, S.O.A.P. (Sounds Of African-American Poets) and more. (3) Working with a groups of young Mothers and Fathers on various community issues, and developing/implementing workshops on these issues.

Urban Youth identifies young mothers and fathers (ages 15-25) as a population lacking services, resources, and support. This year the UY will:

(a) connect with other organizations and agencies working with young parents;

(b) work with a group of young parents to create workshops on conflict resolution/violence prevention, and possibly the prison industrial complex; and

(c) work to address some of the identified needs using social action/organizing as a means of empowerment and leadership.

(4) Provide an affordable youth sports program to give all youth interested in playing organized sports the opportunity to participate.
