Help Change A Life!

Urban Youth Dallas is always looking for dedicated volunteers. Most of our volunteers whom donate their time have specific projects and or skill interests. We welcome volunteers with a broad range of skills; we are especially seeking volunteers who can help with tutoring our youth in GED preparation, artists, music engineers, singers, assisting youth with jobs search and training, resume, and interview skills, business mentors and much more!

Urban Youth in Community Service & Connections:

Valuing the urban community over competition, Urban Youth Dallas keeps the emphasis on the urban youth and community needs and their extraordinary talent. As Urban Youth Dallas progress and youth move closer to becoming part of team, the youth and the community will create unity.

Urban Youth Dallas working with other organizations (with a common goal; our youth) through out Dallas County to expand opportunities for Urban Youth Dallas participants to show that our youth voices and lives do matter and are valued, not and disregarded.

Urban Youth Dallas strides to collaborate with other youth organizations, we believe that collaborations will create more opportunities for our youth, as well as extend educational activities and sports opportunities.

Some of the organizations with whom we will collaborate include P.L.A.Y.S. (Positive Leadership Advances Youth Sports), Texas Certified Sports Officials, Parker College, Woman Blue Chip League (Semi-Pro Basketball League), Dallas Parks and Recreation, DISD (Dallas Independent School District), RISD (Richardson Independent School District), TAAF (Texas Amateur Athletic Federation), Jr NBA/Jr WNBA, AAU, local colleges (i.e. Dallas County Community College), Girls Inc. and Boys and Girls Clubs and others.

Well-designed service learning promotes academic achievement, competence, self-confidence, and self-esteem. It creates empathy for others and builds skills in problem solving and in working cooperatively (Grant Commission, 1988). Service opportunities stimulate skills specifically useful for future employment--skills which many urban youth do not see modeled in their neighborhoods--punctuality and reliability, responsibility for task completion, getting along with others, and good grooming.” (Harrison, 1987).
